Water Consumption

Typical Antelope Valley agricultural water use is 4 times what our project will consume per acre. The estimate is based on our licensed 14 acre project growing cannabis vs typical Antelope Valley water use.

The cannabis water consumption amount is based on computer-controlled drip irrigation systems for both indoor and outdoor cultivation. We will use a total of 18 acre feet of water, per year, at full buildout.

Actual water application rates for the over 18 thousand acres of livestock grazing, hay, and garlic production in the Antelope Valley are well-documented. These numbers are readily available from government websites for both CA and NV. While surface water rights alone amount to nearly 8 acre feet per year, per acre, actual application rates including groundwater are significantly reduced from that because of annual precipitation variations. The actual application rate average is 5.5 acre feet, per acre, per year for agricultural consumption. This rate holds true on the parcels directly adjacent to our project. If our 14 acres were watered at the documented Antelope Valley agriculture rate, it would consume 77 acre feet of water per year. That amounts to 4 times the water we will consume at full buildout, a process that will take several years.
